Obesity is a chronic, multifactorial disease characterized by an excess of body fat greater than 20% in men and 25% in women, accompanied by metabolic disorders that increase the risk for developing co-morbidities such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus type 2, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, some cancers and infertility.
According to the Mexican Official Standard (NOM) of the integral management of obesity it’s classified as obesity the Body Mass Index (BMI = kg / m2) from 27 kg / m and from 25 kg / m² in population short stature. In the rest of the world obesity is defined as BMI of 30 kg / m². Patients who qualify for surgery are those with obesity (BMI> 30)

- 70% increase in coronary heart disease
- 75% Increase infarct
- 400% Increase in Diabetes Mellitus
